Education is a critical success factor for the socio-economic development of an emerging economy. According to Intel, advancing education reform particularly in countries with a growing youth population will encourage responsible citizenship, develop their human capacity and support their transition into a knowledge-based economy. With a clear development agenda for Lagos State, the current administration under the Governorship of Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-olu has articulated its strategy for a “A Greater Lagos” summarised under 6 pillars (focus areas) known as T-H-E-M-E-S.
Education and Technology represent the “E” and is considered a priority area of this Administration as described by its overarching plan
for the sector:
· Increasing the budgetary allocation to Education.
· Empowering teachers in every local government and strengthening their capacity to deliver quality education.
· Developing new educational infrastructure to cultivate a learning environment that prepares the pupils and students for a new
world that demands creativity, intuition and critical thinking.
· Ensuring technology is integrated into the school curriculum and empowering the youth with the much-needed skills for the jobs
It is based on this premise; this education transformation document was developed to distil the specific initiatives and intervention plans required to execute on the above-mentioned mandate. Subtitled “The BOS Public School Transformation Plan”, this document is an integration of several action initiatives and carefully curated ideas designed to meet the urgent needs of the sector. With no intentions to re-invent the wheel, this plan is designed to leverage already available expertise, tools, partnerships and resources – to improve access, quality and relevance of the Public-School System and Administration in Lagos State. Specifically, the plan covers: Public – Primary, Secondary Schools; Technical and Model Colleges.
To be a model of excellence in the provision of education in Africa.
Providing quality education accessible to all learners through effective and efficient management of resources for the attainment of self-reliance and socio-economic development.
