The World Bank Assisted Universal Basic Education(UBE) Project in Lagos state

1. The Universal Basic Education (UBE) programme of the Federal Republic was launched by President Olusegun Obasanjo on Thursday, 30th September, 1999.
2. Basically, the UBE programme was to provide free education for children of school age from Primary Class One to Junior Secondary School Class Three.
3. The UBE programme of the Federal Government only compliments the Basic Education Programme of Lagos State Government, which provides free education from primary school to the senior secondary school level.
4. There are many stakeholders who are expected to come on board to assist in implementing the UBE programme. Such stakeholders include: the Federal Government; State Government; Local Government Councils; Philanthropists, Non-Governmental Organisations, International Donor Agencies.
