As part of the activities marking World Teachers’ Day in Education District I, Mathematics teachers from all the schools within the districts gathered recently at Education Resource Centre (ERC) Ojodu to further deepen the knowledge of the subject and to embrace the use of technology in teaching mathematics. The workshop with the theme: ‘Mathematics and Technology: The Missing Link’ demystifies the challenges mathematics teachers are facing in arousing the interest and knowledge of their students on the subject.
The Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary (TG/PS) of Education District I, Dr. Mrs. Olufolayimika Ayandele reiterated the commitment of the District to teachers’ career development noting that only such deliberate effort will ensure the attainment of inclusive and functional education.
A professor of Mathematics Education and Deputy Vice Chancellor, Tai Solarin University of Education, Professor Abayomi Arigbadu emphasized that the missing link between Mathematics and Technology is the fear and lack of creativity adding that the use of technology in teaching mathematics will interest the students. “There should be an intercept between content knowledge and pedagogical knowledge and that intercept is technology. In view of this, Technology – Pedagogy Content interface is a model that every mathematics teacher should adapt,” he said.
