Curriculum Services Department

The Curriculum Services Department (CSD) has the responsibility of responding quickly to design strategies in improving on what to teach, how to teach and evaluate what is taught.

The Departmental functions of the department are as follows:

  • Promotes the development of curriculum of pre-primary, primary, junior secondary and senior secondary levels in Lagos State,
  • Develops new techniques and approaches to curriculum development ,
  • Revises and produces unified primary, junior and senior secondary schemes of work for use in schools in accordance with National Curriculum, NERDC – Abuja.
  • Designs, develops, coordinates, distributes and monitors Continuous Assessment Schemes
  • Evaluates existing school curricula
  • Organizes teacher education programmes and other curriculum and instructional materials,
  • Organizes, coordinates and monitors the activities of nine (13) functional Subject Teachers Associations (STAs) in the State,
  • Distributes and monitors the usage of Free Textbooks to public primary, junior and senior secondary schools in the State
  • Distributes to public schools and sell Approved Booklist and Schemes of Work to Private Pre-primary, primary, junior and senior secondary schools,
  • Organizes Book-Fair/Exhibition
  • Reviews Educational VCDs, CDs, DVDs and Audio Cassettes on various School Subjects
  • Reviews Educational Magazines
  • Honours invitations of training workshops and seminars for Subject Teachers by the Publishers
  • Reviews applicable to textbooks in pre-primary, primary, junior and senior secondary schools in the state.
  • Organizes and coordinate a Major Book Review every three (3) years in the state to produce the Approved Booklists to be used in schools.

Administrative Organisation of CSD

 In order to achieve the set objectives and to function properly, the Curriculum Services Department (CSD) is organized into two (2) main divisions.

  • Senior Secondary/Book Review Division
  • Pre-primary, Primary and Junior Secondary Division

Senior Secondary/Book Review Unit

  • Organize and co-ordinate a major Book Review every 3 years in the State to produce the Approved Booklist to be used in schools.
  • Distribute to public schools and sell approved booklist to private pre-primary, primary, junior and senior secondary schools.
  • Revise and produce Unified Senior Secondary Schemes of Work for use in schools in accordance with the National Curriculum from NERDC.
  • Design, develop, co-ordinate, distribute and monitor continuous assessment booklet usage in schools.
  • Organize, co-ordinate and monitor the activities of 13 active and functional Subject Teachers Association in the State.
  • Review the National Curriculum on the 34 trade subjects to produce Unified Schemes of Work on Trade Subjects for Senior Secondary Schools.
  • Distribute and monitor the usage of free textbooks to public schools in the State.
  • Review educational magazines, VCDs, CDs, DVDs and Audio Cassettes on various school subjects.
  • Honour invitations on training workshops and seminars for Subject Teachers by the publishers.

Pre-primary, Primary and Junior Schools Unit

  • Promote the development of Curriculum at Pre-primary, Primary and Junior Secondary levels in Lagos State.
  • Develop new techniques and approaches to Curriculum Development.
  • Revise and produce Unified Pre-primary (Nursery), Primary and Junior Secondary Schemes of Work for use in schools in accordance with the National Curriculum from NERDC.
  • Distribute books donated by non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to schools and their libraries.
  • Organize book fairs/exhibition.
  • Organize teacher education programmes and other Curriculum and Instructional materials programmes.
  • Develop new techniques and approaches to Curriculum Development.
  • Evaluate existing school curricular.
